2017 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project – Celebrating Canada 150!
A Canada-wide Habitat for Humanity movement from July 9-14, 2017 celebrated Canada’s 150th anniversary this year…and First Baptist Church was along for the ride! This was the largest and most ambitious initiative in Habitat for Humanity’s history in Canada. 150 homes were built, alongside 150 Habitat families to provide affordable homeownership opportunities across Canada.
Thousands of volunteers, sponsors and community partners helped make this possible. As part of this celebration, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter joined us here in Canada for the 34th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
President Carter and Mrs. Carter focused their efforts in Edmonton, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba, but the Carter Work Project was a country-wide effort, with almost 50 communities in every province and territory in Canada, including Habitat GO’s four builds in Ottawa this year, helping reach the goal of building 150+ homes.
